Troop 32 is located in Dickinson, ND, in the
Roughrider District of the
Northern Lights Council. We are sponsored by St. John Lutheran Church and meet every Monday in the basement of the church.
Troop 32 was started in 1953. Currently the troop has around 35-40 scouts who are advised by 25-30 active adult leaders. Our troop follows the "boy-led" model of the Boy Scouts. The adults are around to provide advice and assistance when needed, but the leadership of the troop is left to the boys.
Our troop tries to plan at least one non-meeting event per month. Some examples of past events include bowling, water gun fights, swimming and trips to water parks. We also take part in the District camporees held 3 times per year. The biggest camping outing that our troop participates in is a week-long summer camp. We do go to our council's summer camp,
Camp Wilderness, but if the boys would like, we will also take trips to other camps. Some camps that we have visited in the past are
Camp Buffalo Bill near Cody, WY and
Medicine Mountain Scout Ranch near Custer, SD. We have also camped at the base of the
Crazy Horse Monument, also near Custer, SD, and walked out onto the arm of the monument during that campout.
To help offset the costs and fees associated with many of these camps, our troop participates in the Council's product sales in the Spring and the popcorn sales in the Fall of every year. Around the same time as the popcorn, we also sell Christmas wreaths, sprays, garland and other holiday decorating items. Every boy is eligible to sell and the more he sells, the more he earns. We also participate in numerous other fundraising events.
